Privacy Policy

What data we collect

WP Depth collects two kinds of data: email addresses from readers who choose to subscribe, and pseudonymous analytics data from everyone who visits. There is no account system and no comment system on this site.

Newsletter signup

The homepage, the end of every article, and an occasional popup all offer an email signup for new-article notifications. If you sign up, we collect the email address you provide and, where the form offers it, the topics you say you're interested in (hosting, plugins, speed, SEO, WooCommerce, security, agency tools, or guides). This is used only to send you relevant new articles and is never sold or shared beyond the processor below.

Signups are processed by Brevo (formerly Sendinblue), a third-party email marketing platform that stores your email and manages sending on our behalf — see Brevo's privacy policy. Every email includes an unsubscribe link; unsubscribing removes you from the list.

Site analytics

This site runs its own self-hosted analytics system to understand traffic and improve content. For every page load, it records:

• The page URL and referrer (where you came from, if anywhere)
• Country (derived from a Cloudflare header, not GPS or precise location)
• Browser and device type (e.g. "Chrome" / "mobile"), aggregated — not a full user-agent fingerprint
• Scroll depth and time on page, used to filter out bot traffic and understand engagement
• A hashed version of your IP address (SHA-256 with a private salt) — the raw IP address is never stored

To tell returning visitors from new ones within a session, the site stores two random identifiers in your browser's localStorage and sessionStorage — not in a cookie. These identifiers aren't linked to your name, email, or any other directly identifying information.

Cookies

The site's own analytics do not use cookies — visitor/session tracking uses browser localStorage/sessionStorage instead, as described above, and you can clear these at any time via your browser settings.

One third-party service on this site does set cookies, from Google's own domains rather than ours: Google AdSense, which serves the ads on article pages and may use cookies for ad delivery and measurement. You can control advertising personalisation at Google My Ad Center, and blocking third-party cookies in your browser prevents it. This site does not use Google Analytics. A password-protected internal dashboard, used only by the site owner to view aggregate analytics, does set a session cookie for admin login — this is not something regular readers encounter.

If you click an affiliate link and make a purchase, the affiliate partner (Kinsta, Cloudways, etc.) may set cookies on their own domain. These are governed by the affiliate partner's privacy policy, not this one.

Affiliate links

Some links on this site are affiliate links. When you follow these links and make a purchase, we may earn a commission. This is disclosed on every page that contains affiliate links and in full on the Affiliate Disclosure page.

Affiliate link clicks are tracked by the affiliate network (e.g. Impact, ShareASale, direct partner programmes). The affiliate network records the click with a unique identifier. No personal data beyond the click event and resulting conversion is shared with this site.

Third-party services

The site's pages are served as static files, but two small pieces of server-side infrastructure support it: a PHP endpoint that receives the analytics events described above and stores them in a database on our hosting server, and Brevo, which processes newsletter signups. Neither is accessible to the public — the analytics dashboard is password-protected and used only by the site owner.

One third-party script is loaded on article pages: Google AdSense (googlesyndication.com), which serves the ads, governed by Google's privacy policy. Traffic statistics come from the self-hosted system described above, not from Google Analytics or any other third-party analytics product. No social media platform scripts, session recording, heatmap or cross-site behavioural tracking tools are used.

Your rights (GDPR)

If you are located in the European Economic Area, you have the right to access, rectify, or erase personal data held about you.

Newsletter data (your email and stated interests) can be erased at any time via the unsubscribe link in any email, or by contacting us via the About page and we'll remove it from Brevo directly.

Analytics data is pseudonymous — your IP is hashed before storage and never kept in raw form, so we have no practical way to look up or isolate a specific visitor's analytics records on request. If you have questions about what's collected, contact us via the About page.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes materially, the "Last updated" date at the top of this page will be updated. Continued use of the site after a policy change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
